Vet on the Wild Side: Further Adventures of a Wildlife Vet

David Taylor. St. Martin's Press, $16.95 (224pp) ISBN 978-0-312-05529-5

Twenty years as vet to exotic animals has left Taylor ( Zoo Vet ) with an apparently inexhaustible fund of entertaining stories. Here, he tells about following Hannibal's trail through the Alps with elephants (a walk for charity); rescuing a pair of dolphins from a hotel swimming pool in Cairo; collecting marine animals in Cuba. He recounts experiences caring for falcons and camels at the Al Ain Zoo in the United Arab Emirates. Taylor, who has appeared on BBC television programs since 1965, gives a lively account of misadventures on stage with unpredictable animals. His stories are colorful, his enthusiasm infectious.
