Truffles is Sick

Catherine Anholt. Little Brown and Company, $0 (20pp) ISBN 978-0-316-04259-8

Anholt's distinctive style makes Truffles a piglet to watch. He wakes up in the middle of the night crying that he doesn't feel good. His parents tell him he'll feel better in the morning. A lot they know! Truffles is actually much worse, with pink spots all over his body. He doesn't like medicine, but he does enjoy curling up in Mother's lap with tea, cookies and his favorite book. Most of the sick day is fun, and by evening, Truffles's spots have all but disappeared, but Father seems to be coming down with something. It's easy for Truffles to say, ""Don't be such a baby! It's not that bad!'' The accompanying illustrations feature portly parents and pig-family photos on almost every wall of the house. Slightly offbeat, completely entertaining, this, happily, is not the only book about Trufflesthe other is Truffles in Trouble. Ages 28. (May)
