Don Johnson Spice Mi

Suzanne Munshower. Signet Book, $2.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-451-14345-7

Exploiting the popularity of Don Johnson and TV's Miami Vice series, this biography is one of the better ""fanzine'' books. Although the author quotes from familiar magazine articles, the reader gets a fresh, very personal and intriguing look into Johnson's childhood, acting careerdozens of failed television pilots, early feature-film disastersand drug and drinking problems. Moreover, there is a history of the television show that made him famous, along with a segment on the work of producer Michael Mann. Johnson is portrayed as a sincere, warm, natural person who has not allowed his newfound (and long-awaited) fame to alter his personality, even if it has definitely changed his lifestyle.
