ONE ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS

This literary spin-off of Little Souls Inc.'s handmade dolls comes complete with red-velvet spine, tie ribbons and a pocket (bound into the back cover) stuffed with a note to Santa. Despite the gimmicky packaging, there's enough whimsy to keep the proceedings afloat, as Isa's grandmother and great-aunt fashion her a coat from red velvet drapes ("the fabric of your dreams"), used only once before, for a "kind old gentleman." Twee, yes, but engaging nevertheless, particularly the cheerfully cluttered mixed media collages. Ages 4-8. (Sept.)
