Kerry, 18, had been friends with the teenagers who committed suicide that summer. At his home alone, while his father and new bride are away, Kerry knows he would have been lonely without Alicia, whom he loves. The only daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the world, Aliciawith Kerryhad struggled to understand the deaths of so many friends. Then Alicia, too, commits suicideor so it seems. But if she did not take her own life, who killed her? The easy, flowing style of this mystery novel, written from Kerry's point of view, is very effective, but it does not provide readers with a strong sense of the characters and the motives behind their actions. Thus, this otherwise eerie, moody story is somewhat frustrating to read, with an abrupt, predictable ending. Ages 13-up. (Nov.)
