Rants Redux

Dennis Miller. Random House Audio Publishing Group, $15 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-553-52645-5

Miller, host of HBO's Dennis Miller Live, has twice before ""ranted"" on audio (The Rants and Ranting Again, both BDD). In the 14 mini-diatribes contained here, Miller explodes into his trademark outbursts as he takes on a series of loaded topics from contemporary life--women's rights, abortion, parenting, immigration. What is Miller's vision of America? As he puts it: ""The tornado-beset trailer park that is our everyday existence."" Yes, his humor is profane, mean-minded and chauvinistic (as when her refers to wives as ""shoe jockeys""). He prides himself in the reverse-chic of his reactionary and xenophobic views. Yet he gains some grace by being equally hard on himself, describing his life as a self-loathing everyman trapped in an evil, consumerist society. For those who prefer to enjoy audio in their cars, Miller's screeds are perfect for inciting docile listeners to road rage. (June)
