Paul Huljich. Mwella (Midpoint, dist.), $16.95 trade paper (288p) ISBN 978-0-615-48920-9
After enduring years of persistent stress as the CEO of a company, Huljich suffered a severe mental breakdown, and decided he needed to make some serious changes. After spending several weeks at the Mayo Clinic and the Menninger Clinic, Huljich realized that while institutional care and medications helped, he "need[ed] to conquer stress" at a personal and sustainable level. His struggle, which he recounts in detail, led to the development of nine steps to overcome debilitating stress. The stages range from the practical (e.g., exercising regularly and spending 15 minutes barefoot each day in order to connect "directly to the earth's surface") to the metaphysical%E2%80%94he encourages readers to "take charge" and be aware "of your thoughts and desires." While Huljich offers little new information here, his personal experience with the subject matter, combined with a positive tone and easy-to-follow steps, makes this a valuable resource. Illus.
