Vanity Fur: Another Outrageous Parody

Ilene Hochberg. Pocket Books, $9.94 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-671-67069-6

The creator of Catmopolitan and Dogue combines the two species in a parody of Vanity Fair that will delight animal lovers. The cover story, ``The Fur Is Flying,'' features Christian LaClaw and Yves Saint Bernard ``fighting like cats and dogs to lead the fashion pack.'' Morris the Cat is the subject of a hilarious article, ``A Cat for Our Times,'' about his sudden withdrawal from the presidential race. He also appears in the full-page American Success ad as a cardmember since 1980: ``Finickiness has its privileges.'' Clever advertisements are a highlight of this spoof. A white cat wearing a jacket, sleeves rolled up, sports a ``Scratch Watch.'' A Scotty peers intelligently over a chess set (the chessmen are all Scotties) in the ``Ruff Lauren'' send-up. And beautiful color photographs feature cats and dogs dressed to the nines. $150,000 ad/promo; author tour. (Nov.)
