My Brother Blubb: My Brother Blubb

Mel Gilden. Aladdin Paperbacks, $3.5 (144pp) ISBN 978-0-671-79898-7

To Daphne Trusk, the protagonist of this fast-paced SF/adventure story, ``a conventional kid is not very interesting.'' But she's definitely intrigued by Sidney Agenda. The strange boy-genius is in a serious predicament: he has created ``Mr. Hero: The Perfect Artificial All-Purpose Champion of Truth and Justice'' for his crime-fighting class at Paladin Tech, a school for heroes-in-training, but Lowell Gravenstien and his friends from Moe Prep, a school for evil geniuses, will do anything to get their hands on him. When Sidney is captured by Lowell's villainous gang, Daphne and her next-door neighbor embark upon a perilous rescue mission. Mr. Hero, called Blubb by Daphne because of his purple, formless appearance, uses his unique talents to facilitate the search. Gilden (who writes the novelizations of Beverly Hills, 90210 ) tosses in enough suspense, humor and action to offset weak characterizations and artless narration. Ages 7-11. (Aug.)
