The Biggest Truck

David Lyon. Lothrop, Lee and Shepard Books, $13.95 (33pp) ISBN 978-0-688-05513-4

The author of The Runaway Duck returns with another traveling tale. ``Click, click'' goes the bedroom light as Jim wakes to start his job. It's 10:00 at night and while his neighbors sleep Jim eats breakfast and heads over to the garage. A cargo of fresh strawberries is being loaded into Jim's truck. ``Bhhhhrrooom,'' roars the engine. Jim drives all night to deliver the produce to another town by dawn. A cut-away picture shows the truck's engine, gears and axles, while on another page the steering wheel and dashboard are drawn from the driver's perspective. The big truck's night journey is enlivened by Lyon's use of bold, jaunty colors, which illuminate such roadside attractions as the ``Home Cookin' Truck Stop,'' where Jim shares a cup of coffee with fellow truckers. An engaging guide to the mysterious flow of goods via the highway, this will please truck fans everywhere. Ages 3-8. (Oct.)
