By the Sea

In the same vein as her previous children's book, Just One More , Koch's second effort takes a zippy, colorful approach to teaching preschoolers a basic--but potentially confusing--concept in the world of words. Here, every spread introduces two words that are opposites; a simple, childlike watercolor illustrates each term. The pictures are set at the seaside, which not only gives the book a pleasing consistency, but allows the author to present several pairs of opposites not usually included in books on this subject: high tide/low tide; deep/shallow; foggy/clear; float/sink. The result is a refreshingly unconventional lesson for little ones. Ages 3-up. (Mar.)
