Hay Un Raton En Casa!: A Mouse in the House

Gr 2-4-This engaging easy reader, originally published in German by Nord-Sed Verlag in 1995, has been smoothly translated into Spanish. The story recounts the chaos created in a household when the family feline brings in his captive, but still lively, prey. The three children, the mother, and the cat all chase the mouse in an attempt to recapture him (for varying reasons). Once secured, the children want to keep it in a cage but the mother persuades them to release it in a nearby field. Told in the first person from the point of view of the eldest daughter, the text contains a great deal of dialog. The tone is relaxed and comforting despite the antics of the two animals. Softly tinted watercolor illustrations depict the action, nicely showing all of the characters in domestic scenes. Recommended for both classroom and individual reading.Maria Otero-Boisvert, ""Criticas""
