Bonnie of Evidence: A Passport to Peril Mystery

Maddy Hunter. Midnight Ink (www.midnightinkbooks.com), $14.99 trade paper (312p) ISBN 978-0-7387-2705-9

Scotland is the destination in Hunter’s delightfully deadly eighth Passport to Peril mystery (after 2012’s Dutch Me Deadly). Emily Andrew Miceli, in her role as “glorified chaperone” for a tour group of Iowa seniors, divides the group into five geocaching teams, who are all determined to come out on top. That one team consists of three widows and one eligible male adds to the competitive fun. When Isobel Kronk swipes what she believes to be the cache at one stop, the item turns out to be an ancient dagger with a curse that apparently strikes Isobel dead in her kitty pajamas. Emily removes the dagger for safekeeping, but it disappears only to be discovered with the next victim. Emily and friends will have to do some fancy footwork if they hope to catch a clever killer in this appealing cozy. Agent: Irene Goodman, Irene Goodman Literary. (Feb.)
