World According to Narnia: Christian Meaning in C.S Lewis Beloved Chronicles

. Blackstone Audiobooks, $25.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-7861-7392-1

Listeners eager to learn more about the beloved Chronicles of Narnia series will find much to deepen their understanding of this classic series of seven books by C.S. Lewis. Rogers's study of the books' biblical symbolism and metaphors is brought to life by reader Emerson, who uses well-placed inflection and carefully modulated tone to bring listeners into the drama and meaning of each specific tale. One almost wishes for the voices of Aslan, Reepicheep, Puddleglum and Eustace, among many others, to provide variation, but one voice works well enough. Since the audio comes with no table of contents or list of tracks, listeners will have to find their way themselves if they want to hear specific discussions of The Magician's Nephew, Prince Caspian or The Silver Chair. Aside from the lack of navigational tools to help pinpoint specific books being discussed, the outer packaging is strong and attractive, with an outside wrap to prevent the case from opening. This is a worthy audio addition to any Lewis library. Simultaneous release with the Warner Faith hardcover. (Reviews, Aug. 29).
