Unpackaged Tours: World Travels Off the Beaten Track

Edwin Morrisby, Ted Morrisby. Taplinger Publishing Company, $17.95 (392pp) ISBN 978-0-8008-7939-6

Morrisby, a British TV filmmaker, writes here about his exciting ""world travels off the beaten path.'' He and his film crew have trekked to little-known, stimulating, sometimes dangerous places. History becomes vivid in his accounts of finding Viking relics in Greenland, of exploring the island where Alexander Selkirk (``Robinson Crusoe'') was marooned. Overshadowing all his adventures, however, are Morrisby's recollections of his experience in Haiti where he made a film in 1930. One feels his fear at meeting Papa Doc and the female head of the murderous Tontons Macoutes. Readers will also be intrigued by the author's maps of territories rarely depicted in general atlases.
