Winter Grief Summer Grace

Miller has combined his own photographs with meditations, poetry selections, scripture, spiritual exercises and quotations from such varied sources as Brother Lawrence and Gaelic prayers to create a roadway through the grief that comes from a loved one's death. His compilation will be a helpful companion or tool for those mourning the anticipated death of a parent, the peaceful passing of a spouse of many years or of an old and trusted friend. There is nothing here, however, that addresses the stunning vacuum left by an abrupt and untimely death of a child or the agony of coping with violent death. Anyone living in that real world will find this collection far too saccharine and far too easy. (Oct.)
