Making Woodwork AIDS and Devices

Robert Wearing. Sterling Publishing (NY), $11.95 (223pp) ISBN 978-0-8069-6264-1

Advanced amateur and professional wood-workers should be delighted with the 203 projects suggested here for making a job easier or solving a specific problem. Beware, however: this is not a manual for beginners. Furniture-maker and teacher Wearing offers no introductory text, nor does he state the purpose or function of any tool or procedure described. The first project is an ""improved sawing board,'' the last ``a carcase cramping system.'' In between come a dovetail marking system, a combined ``grasshopper'' and deep gauge, a wooden jack plane and a method of diametric drilling of cylinders, to name a few. The instructions are clear and detailed, and the accompanying drawings and diagrams are easily understood. December
