Superflex: Ms. Olympia's Guide to Building a Strong and Sexy Body

Corinna Everson. McGraw-Hill/Contemporary, $16.95 (212pp) ISBN 978-0-8092-4865-0

Everson, reigning star of women's competitive bodybuilding, and her physical therapist/bodybuilding husband (also associate editor of Muscle & Fitness magazine) here show little of the originality exhibited when they won the 1983 USA Couples Championship. They ""disclose'' the regimen that helped her win three Ms. Olympia titlesmainly a rehash of progressive weight-training routines and techniques, nutritional and dietary jargon and pointers for competition. Like some other recent titles, this one hypes bodybuilding as the best route to the ``new sensuality,'' and much space is devoted to debunking ``myths'' about women's muscularity. Less space, though, is given to explanations beyond the obvious. But the Eversons's apparent wholesomeness, their insiders' chatter and 200 photos should make this a hit with the general bodybuilding audience. (May)
