The Planet Putipoo: Here We Are Landing One Fine Day ...

This simple board book depicts a trip to a magical place where nothing grows, the planet Putipoo. Short lines and bright colors achieve a sense of movement and a fillip of a storyline. Putipoo is populated with friendly blue monsters and green creatures. The visitors to the planet build a robot and explore caves and terrain until they meet the king of Putipoo. Cutaway first pages allow readers to see the higher mountains and valleys on later pages, so the very youngest children learn to turn pages from right to left. Older readers may find that the format cramps the early pages visually. On the plus side, the construction is sturdy and the graphic design is good. This is a worthwhile addition to the store of basic, rhyming board books. Ages 3-6. (Feb.)
