From Beer to Eternity

Will Anderson. Penguin Books, $14.95 (162pp) ISBN 978-0-8289-0555-8

An aficionado for 25 years and the author of Beer, U.S.A., Anderson serves up a foamy head of beer facts and lore. For example, in brief chapters, he gives tips on ""the care and feeding of beer glasses,'' discusses the growth in popularity of imported brews, investigates the question ``Why a Six-pack?'' (in part because Coca-Cola sold well packaged in sixes), presents three crossword puzzles, tells about beer memorabilia collectors and notes that Louis Pasteur discovered the process that came to be called pasteurization while trying to increase the life of beer, not milk. The author's tone is pleasantly conversational, and his entertaining musings make the reader want to head to the nearest bar before continuing the happy task of perusing this book.
