Camille's Children: 31 Miracles and Counting

As head of the Up With Down's Syndrome Foundation for children suffering from Down's syndrome, Geraldi is a powerful advocate for the rights of the handicapped--including the right to be loved. National publicity has been garnered by the Florida couple, Camille and her pediatrician husband, who with their two daughters have opened their home to growing numbers of Down's syndrome children whom they adopt. The daily, mind-boggling routines of the Geraldis and their staff to ready the children for the day's activities exhibit a palpable philosophy of love and discipline that would disarm most skeptics. Of course, there are problems, including meager funding, as Geraldi and freelancer Burris make clear. Yet, despite the obstacles, the Geraldis give new meaning to the concept of family.
