Diabetes control is especially tricky for women because the incurable disease is complicated by menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Although the verbose work discusses very minor issues like whether ``diabetic'' is a noun or an adjective, much of the information is specific and excellentranging from the particulars of treatment for insulin-induced hypoglycemia in pregnant women to sensitive ways that diabetic mothers can explain diabetes to their children. Jovanovic and Biermann are diabetic women themselves, and many of the absorbing case studies are personal ones, which will further persuade readers of the integrity of the proffered advice.
