My House to Yours: How to Look Younger, Feel Better, & Live a Happier Life

Doris B. Gill. Crab Cove Books, $9.94 (159pp) ISBN 978-0-9618693-1-1

In her preface to this book of commonsensical household, dietary and general advice about living, Gill states: ""It has always bothered me to see people suffering when there are so many simple remedies that can provide relief and increase comfort.'' Some suggestions are basic and familiar: Gill counsels, among other things, that readers give up refined sugar, avoid soft drinks, eschew processed foods, exercise more and quit smoking. Other advice is clever: ``If jewelry beads need restringing, use dental floss.'' ``Grate soft cheese easily by putting it in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes before grating.'' ``When you get the urge to splurge, instead do something that is free.'' Gill is a devotee of herbs, vitamins and acupuncture, but she notes that readers should consult doctors, too. This is a handy title full of thought-provoking ideas. (September)
