Divine Light Eternal Life: Experiences and Reflections of a Mystic

Ralph Kish. Visionary Books, $11.95 (181pp) ISBN 978-0-9657734-7-8

When he was 40, engineer and builder Kish had a mystical experience in which, he writes, the ""absolute truth of our immortal nature"" was revealed to him. Sixteen years later, facing emergency heart surgery and the possibility of death, he began to write this book as a guide for others seeking spiritual truth. Kish combines Eastern religious methods of meditation with Western, mostly Christian, concepts such as heaven and eternal life to show the path he has followed to what he calls ""the White Light."" In a key chapter, he presents 37 principles (e.g., ""The Light is always in a state of expanding Bliss Consciousness""), which he believes guided him in his path to enlightenment. While Kish tries hard to demonstrate the significance of his mystical principles for coming to ""Cosmic Awareness,"" his language is so riddled with cliches (e.g., ""I united with an infinity of love, bliss and peace that was so inexpressibly boundless and magnificent that it defies description"") and amorphous spiritual categories that his book ends up being almost a caricature of the quest for enlightenment.
