Fear the Darkness

Alexandra Ivy. Kensington/Zebra, $7.99 mass market (352p) ISBN 978-1-4201-1137-8

Ivy’s ninth Guardians of Eternity paranormal (after Bound by Darkness) features two Weres challenged by themselves as much as they are by evil forces. Imprisoned by a demon lord for nearly all of her life and “compelled by the visions that consumed her to the point of oblivion,” Cassandra is a prophet eagerly sought by the Dark Lord. Caine, her bodyguard and a reformed drug dealer, knows he should stay away from her, but innocent Cassie tumbles into his bed and he can’t resist. Despite the continuing threat of her abduction, Cassie rashly runs away from Caine in order to save him. Not surprisingly, both are eventually captured, resulting in a teamup of familiar characters to defeat the Dark Lord. The resolution of plots from previous books will please fans, but newer readers may want to start with earlier titles. Agent: Evan Marshall, Evan Marshall Agency. (Sept.)
