Heart of the Dragon's Realm

Karalynn Lee. Harlequin/Carina, $3.99 e-book (136p) ISBN 978-1-4268-9455-8

The latest fantasy romance from Lee (Sea Gifts) is a sweet and ably told, if largely predictable, tale of a princess dealing with romance and politics. Princess Kimri of Anagard, a stereotypical spunky tomboy who loves riding and fighting and hates reading and sewing, is sold by her brother to be the bride of the mountain king of Helsmont. She is less than pleased, but Helsmont has many customs that suit her, including a one-year engagement period that provides ample opportunity for her to practice swordplay, and there are intriguing rumors of a dragon guarding the land. She also gradually falls in love with Tathan, her betrothed. Complications ensue due to the constant state of war between Anagard and neighboring Kenasgate, and Helsmont is inevitably drawn into the mix. Lee creates a large and distinctive cast of characters, including guards, bakers, and prisoners, who help flesh out the predictable story and add difficulties beyond the clich%C3%A9s. (Nov.)
