Star Crossed

Jennifer Echols. Pocket, $7.99 mass market (374p) ISBN 978-1-4516-7775-1

YA author Echols (Going Too Far) entertains with her first adult outing, a tale of dueling PR agents trying to save their clients from themselves. Wendy Mann’s tough manner annoys her clients but gets results, even with stars bent on self-destruction. After an ungrateful and disgruntled band severs a contract with her agency, Wendy’s on the verge of being fired—until a volatile teen actress requests her personally. But the teen star’s feuding and washed-up heartthrob ex is represented by Daniel Blackstone, Wendy’s college nemesis and now owner of a rival celebrity PR firm. If stars who like to urinate in public (Daniel’s) and post pictures of their cleavage (Wendy’s) were their only problems, this would be a lightweight tale, but mix in a disturbing threat from Wendy’s past and the story soon takes a detour into nail-biting suspense. A neat wrap-up will satisfy fans of Hollywood stories and romantic suspense. Agent: Laura Bradford, Bradford Literary Agency. (Mar.)
