Marriage Secrets: How to Have a Lifetime Love Affair

Roseanne Rosen, Rosanne Rosen. Carol Publishing Corporation, $18.95 (274pp) ISBN 978-1-55972-166-0

The premise of this marriage manual is that its ``experts'' are average people--freelance journalist Rosen interviewed hundreds of couples to find out what made their marriages work. Their marriage ``secrets,'' revealed through anecdotes, are divided into chapters covering topics such as sex, communication and combat, personal space, affairs and second marriages. While a few of the secrets seem manipulative--bribery, creating illusions of freedom--and the cliche-laden writing bogs the book down, overall there is sound advice in this unpretentious guide. A self-quiz is included to help readers evaluate the state of their own marriages. (Apr.)
