Doggie Homes: Barkitecture for Your Best Friend

. Lark Books (NC), $14.95 (128pp) ISBN 978-1-57990-853-9

Klarich and Woods' handbook-based on Barkitechture, the DIY Network television show they produce-offers designs for ten different doghouses and a handful of other doggie domestication projects, ranging from a canine supply cabinet to a water trough to a miniature window seat (a ""Barklounger""). The houses range from the simple, such as a puzzle house built without screws or nails, to the more advanced, such as the opulent-looking ""Pagoda Palace"" design that graces the cover. In each case, illustrated, relatively easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions are included. The book is augmented with general dog care tips, including general nutrition and training, but more importantly, it includes how to get your dog to use the doghouse you just spent a weekend constructing. The houses themselves vary in design and difficulty, offering something for everyone with a dog in need of a place of its own-be it a cabin, a schoolhouse, a miniature trailer or a replica of your own home.
