I Love Mom

Human mothers aren’t the only ones to care for their young, as this book demonstrates with photographs and discussions of 14 animals and how they rear their children. Sentences in large type imagine comments from each young animal: “Oh no, it’s all gone dark. Where is everyone?” reads the text opposite an image of baby plovers tucked underneath their mother’s feathers; secondary paragraphs provide contextual information for the photos (“Piping plovers are great parents.... They even pretend to be injured so other animals attack them, not their babies”). Elsewhere, the parenting tactics of dolphins, gazelles, walruses, gray wolves, and other animals are explored.
