No More Diabetes: A Complete Guide to Preventing, Treating, and Overcoming Diabetes

Gary Null. Skyhorse (Norton, dist.), $24.95 (448p) ISBN 978-1-62636-155-3

Prolific author and radio talk show host Null (Reverse Arthritis) tackles the subject of diabetes in this spirited text. Noting that more than 24 million children and adults in the U.S. suffer from the disease, Null zooms in on possible lifestyle, dietary, and environmental causes of type II diabetes, as well as factors associated with the less prevalent type I diabetes. In separate chapters, he discusses traditional and natural approaches to the disease, obesity, super foods, and offers a variety of healthful recipes. He also includes a chapter called “The Experts Speak Out,” in which guest contributors (integrative physicians, a holistic nurse, psychologists, psychiatrists, etc.) address metabolic syndrome, stress, diabetes testing, lifestyle issues, and other topics. One highlight of the book is a revealing chapter, “Sweet Suicide,” on the dangers of sugar and the sugar industry itself. Though the concluding testimonials from clients who have followed the author’s advice seems long-winded and perhaps superfluous, Null’s holistic and hopeful stance on how to conquer diabetes will be useful to readers willing to commit to diet and lifestyle changes.
