Homage to the Sun: The Wisdom of the Magus of Strovolos

Kyriacos C. Markides. Arkana, $0 (236pp) ISBN 978-1-85063-072-2

In the tradition of Carlos Castenada's tales of an academic confounded and converted by a ""primitive'' spiritual teacher, Markides, a professor of sociology at the University of Maine, here continues the account begun in his 1985 title, The Magus of Strovolos: The Extraordinary World of a Spiritual Healer. His subject is Spyros Sathi, a Cypriot psychic who, we are assured, is able to heal the ailing, even when they are thousands of miles away. In addition, Markides treats us to stories of the Master's previous lives, of his current influence with religious and political leaders and to a sampling from his theory: physics in which psychic energy takes the place of electricity. Not surprisingly, the protestations of the Master's humor and practicality recall apologia for the Bhagwan and others, and the evidence Markides offers is either circumstantial, hearsay or his personal experience. For believers only. (November)
