THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SUCCESS

James A. Belasco, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SUCCESS

Likening his journey of writing this book to the Israelites' passage to the promised land, Belasco, author of the groundbreaking business book Teaching the Elephant to Dance, systematically outlines 10 biblically based commandments designed to help listeners gain control of their lives both personally and professionally. Drawing on his high-profile executive positions (at AT&T, etc.), the 63-year-old Belasco emphasizes such tried-and-true principles as keeping commitments, remembering the Sabbath, honoring others with words, delivering one's best and reflecting humility. Claiming people don't lack motivation but focus, Belasco recommends concrete ways to apply his advice—or to align one's actions with one's "soul's agenda"—in every chapter. Although he has an established following, Belasco may put off newcomers with his forceful reading style. Moreover, he demands a great deal from the listener, who may find it necessary to play the recording several times in between doing the outside work he recommends. However, those who persevere will find the effort worthwhile. Based on the New Millennium hardcover. (Jan.)
