PreS-Gr 2-In this oversized picture book, the moon is shown as a gentle lady who awakens each evening and goes to work. The text is spare and hushed, making this a wonderful choice for bedtime reading. What does the moon do at night? She draws the stars, one by one. She runs through fields and forests to scatter the nighttime fog, and she visits cities and towns to draw the curtains and shut the windows so that people can sleep. The moon fosters our dreams and shuts our nightmares away in the closet. She fills the night with mystery, and, of course, she spends hours admiring her beautiful reflection in ponds. When morning comes, she creeps back to her bed and falls asleep. The full-color illustrations are done in a dark palette that lend a sleepy mood to the story. The figure of the moon waxes and wanes over the course of the tale. A gorgeous book for individual or group sharing.
