K Up-This unique and lovely book, measuring a scant six-and-a-half inches square, packs in a lot of art and vocabulary. The glossy cover and heavy stock of the pages contribute to the overall feeling of quality. Details from master artworks are matched with alphabetically arranged words. For example, the ""A"" words are guila, anillo, rbol, ardilla, arquero, asno, and autopistas, each of which is clearly shown in a painting, or detail from a painting. On the left-hand page, the word describing an object is printed against a crisp white background in bold black letters. Every painting is fully labeled (artist, title, and collection), and more than 80 artists, ranging from Hieronymus Bosch to Diego Vel zquez, are included. Among the artists represented are Edward Hopper for his lighthouse, John Constable for his sky, Ren Magritte for his bicyclist, Pieter Bruegel for a helmet, Jean-Fran ois Millet for a pear, and Claude Monet for his turkeys. This is an excellent vocabulary builder as well as an appealing introduction to art. A fine choice for libraries and personal collections.
