Radiografia de La Biblia - Realidad Historica O Tradicion Oral

Tomas Doreste. Grupo Oceano, $40.4 (0pp) ISBN 978-970-651-556-8

Doreste, the author of Magia y enigmas de Am rica (America's Magic and Enigmas, Planeta, 1996), has now turned to the Bible. Using the work of well-known theorists like Sigmund Freud, he questions various biblical narratives and characters and provides his own theories. Although he doesn't embrace the Bible, Doreste allows readers to draw their own conclusions. Interesting, but not convincing, is his hypothesis of Creationism and the formation of the first man, Adam, who Doreste claims was a hermaphrodite. Doreste also presents his hypotheses about the origins of the New Testament and about biblical legends such as Noah's ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, and the three wise men. Although he quotes various theologians, psychologists, and archbishops, he often fails to provide specific documentation to support his theories. Nevertheless, this is a well-researched book with a thorough index of names and table of contents. Doreste's writing is clear and engaging, but the analysis and the topic do not make this a light read. Recommended for academic libraries or bookstores with a Spanish-language religion/biblical studies collection. Lillian McAnally, Miami, FL
