Lisa and David Today: Their Healing Journey from Childhood and Pain Into Love and Life
Theodore Isaac Rubin. MacMillan Publishing Company, $14.38 (146pp) ISBN 978-0-02-605860-5
This slim volume reissues psychiatrist Rubin's novelette about two emotionally disturbed teenagers, Lisa and David, plus a sequel taking their lives to the present. The original volume details David and Lisa's stay in a residential treatment center and their mutually therapeutic friendship. In the sequel, David, now a doctor at the institution where they were patients, hears from Lisa, who yearns to see him for the first time in 20 years. Their meeting initiates a romance. Tension between them is generated, however, when Lisa implores David to leave the center, where he is contently sequestered from the ""real world'' she relishes. Again, Rubin includes clinical details of their respective psychological profiles. He writes upliftingly of the couple's courageous recuperation, and their efforts to reconcile their disparate lifestyles. 50,000 first printing; $50,000 ad/promo; author tour. (April 15)
