The Home Health Care Solution: A Complete Consumer Guide
Janet Zhun Nassif. HarperCollins Publishers, $17.95 (433pp) ISBN 978-0-06-015471-4
Nassif promotes home health care, calling it ""diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, rehabilitation, and supportive care provided at home, rather than in an impersonal hospital, nursing home, or other institution.'' She describes its financial, emotional and psychological benefits, and outlines the various types of home care available, including medical and social hospice and support services. There are profiles of for-profit health care agencies, as well as discussions of costs and insurance coverage, privately hiring home care providers and bypassing an agency, plus alternatives to home care. Nassif also provides specific cost- and tax-saving tips, and advice on buying medical supplies and equipment. Although the writing is occasionally sloppy, this is a remarkably comprehensive guide.
