Line of Duty

Merline Lovelace. Onyx Books, $5.99 (416pp) ISBN 978-0-451-40671-2

Descendants of Princess Leia and that rogue Han Solo, Lieutenant Colonel Brenna Duggan is a squadron commander investigating the death of one of her men in the back room of a Panama bar; and Dave Sanderson is a sexy customs officer who's out to bust illegal drug traffickers. They're two divorces who couldn't be more different: she's strictly wrinkle-free shirts, straight-arrow and by-the-book; he's purely tight jeans and rogue male-doing time in a Mexican prison when the feds offered him a deal. This is strong, action-packed stuff from Lovelace, an ex-Air Force officer herself and Silhouette/Harlequin veteran (Lady of the Upper Kingdom). There's also a fine role-model heroine, who doesn't need rescuing, keeps her own counsel, and ends up in a meaningful relationship with a really cute guy. (Nov.)
