Before he was stricken, at age 33, with Lou Gehrig's Disease, Foster had organized the Midwest's first wildlife hospital and rehabilitation center in northern Wisconsin. In a sequel to his popular Dr. Wildlife, he recounts more stories about his unusual veterinary practice. Two casualties came from the local airporta young bald eagle blown out of its nest and a loon that had crash-landed on a runway, injuring its bill. A youth spear-fishing (out of season) for suckers strikes a beaver in the stomach and brings it to the hospital for treatment; a ""pet'' bobcat slated to be killed is sedated and returned to its natural habitat. There are practical jokes with a fellow vet, difficult clients, recurring problems with the State Department of Natural Resources. Visiting one of the Midwest's roadside ``zoos,'' Foster is outraged by the callousness of the public and the condition of the animals.
