Dr. Science's Book of Shocking Domestic Revelations
Dr Science, Dr. William Morrow & Company, $17 (207pp) ISBN 978-0-688-11444-2
Idiot savant of American Public Radio, Dr. Science now commits his particular blend of misinformation--jumbling scientific terminology with arrant nonsense--to the printed page. The good doctor, creation of Coffey and Kessler, ranges all over the landscape here, touching on buying a home, on children and their education, pets, home entertainment, careers and the future of science. Observing that we ``lose more heat in a house by building a fire in the fireplace than we gain,'' Dr. Science suggests building fires in the summer. ``It's an extremely efficient means of cooling a home.'' He further declares that ``Spam grows from a spore'' and that ``Liquid Paper is a fungus.'' Dr. Science's zany view of everyday matters, sometimes well-targeted and provocative, will be most enjoyed in small bits but is probably best in its original sound bites. Photos. (Nov.)
