Billy and the Attic Adventure
Daryle Worley. Tyke Corporation, $9.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-924067-00-6
When his father leaves the attic trapdoor open and the steps leading to it within easy reach, Billy takes the opportunity to explore. He creeps up the steps and finds an old cap. But when he tries to come down, his foot slips, and Billy is left dangling from the ceiling. His father comes when he hears Billy's cries, and tells him to let go. `` `But I can't see you!' Billy cried. `You don't have to,' said Dad. `I can see you.' '' Billy lets go and lands safely in his father's arms. Soft, nubby pencil drawings fill out the action, which contains moments of genuine suspense. The straightforward story is told in the simplest of sentences; Billy's adventure is just real enough to involve readers, but the pace won't leave them anxious for long. Ages 18 months-6 years.
