Book of Days: Book 5 of the JP Kincaid Chronicles
Deborah Grabien. Plus One (www.plusonepress.com), $17.95 trade paper (310p) ISBN 978-0-9844362-6-2
Grabien's fifth JP Kincaid book (after Apr. 2011's Graceland) captures both the excitement and the incredible effort that goes into making a major music tour a success. The members of the Blacklight band, who have reached the legend stage of their careers, are launching a double CD, Book of Days, with a world tour. One source of trouble is band member Luke Hedley's girlfriend's daughter, Suzanne McElroy, a seductive young woman with the hots for guitarist Kincaid. More seriously, two of the band's crew members die in unfortunate accidents. When more deaths occur and signs point to murder, Kincaid's unease grows to the point that the band hires a San Francisco homicide detective to provide security. Grabien's brilliant descriptions of making music eclipse a pedestrian murder mystery. (Sept.)
