Your Emotional Type: Key to the Therapies That Will Work for You

Michael A. Jawer and Marc S. Micozzi, M.D.. Healing Arts Press (www.gotoit.com), $14.95 trade paper (194p) ISBN 9781594774317

Jawer and Micozzi posit that individuals suffering from certain chronic disorders respond differently to different healing techniques based on their emotional type. They classify individuals' reactions according to the "boundary spectrum" conceived by Tufts University psychiatrist Ernest Hartmann (whose complete boundary questionnaire is provided in an Appendix so the reader can ascertain their type) and go on to suggest that different boundary types are associated with different disorders. In Chapter 7, the authors introduce seven treatments (including hypnosis, acupuncture, meditation and yoga) and point out which work best with which disorders and why based on studies performed by Micozzi. Finally, Appendix B provides background on these treatments and Appendix C provides sources for further information. Unfortunately, from the outset this book employs bits of scare-mongering and eschews actual medicine in favor of fuzzy, feel-good therapies based on vaguely-defined personality theories. (Dec.)
