Selected Shorts: The William Hurt Collection

Hurt's narration is the only thing linking this diverse but entertaining collection of short stories from Ron Carlson, Richard Ford, Aleksandar Hemon and Tobias Wolff. From the solemn to the amusing, Hurt illustrates his range in front of an audience. Hurt works well with the different tones and styles of the stories, and his delivery is well received by the audience. An interview with Hurt afterward provides unfamiliar listeners with a bit of the history of Symphony Space and the range of performances held there. Listeners will enjoy hearing Hurt discuss his craft in reading a story as opposed to acting. Oddly, the interviewer ends the conversation abruptly while Hurt still appears to have more to say. (Mar.)
