Mirror Play
Monte Shin. Minedition, $14.99 (26p) ISBN 978-988-8341-53-5
A moveable reflective surface provides an innovative ingredient in this high-concept book, which begins with its title set backward in a mirror image. In the center of each page, Shin, a game developer, presents a shape that can be rotated. By holding the mirror at a 90-degree angle against each one, readers will discover that the rotation reveals familiar objects and animals. (“Did you find the banana?” Shin asks.) The minimalistic graphic design offers sharply contrasting color combinations (a mosquito is rendered in white and blood red) set against predominantly white verso pages. Though a page at the end shows answers, readers will have just as much fun rotating the shapes as solving the mirror puzzles. Ages 3–5. [em](Sept.)
