Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has signed a multi-year agreement with the Lego Group to develop a publishing program based on a number of Lego properties. The first three books in the line will be released before the 2015 holiday season and will be published as full-color graphic novels and as e-books. The trade paperback graphic novel will be priced at $7.99.

The books will be based on the Lego Ninjago, Friends, and Bionicle properties and will be aimed at children ages 6-11. Andrew Smith, senior v-p and deputy publisher of LBYR, acquired North American rights. Rex Ogle, who joined LBYR last December as senior editor, brand, licensed, and media tie-in publishing, will edit the titles. Before moving to Scholastic, Ogle was a senior editor at Scholastic, where he worked on several properties, including the Lego movie tie-in program.

To help launch the line, LBYR will have a “major presence” at San Diego’s July Comic-Con, the company said. “I could not be more thrilled to establish this publishing partnership with the Lego Group.” says Smith. “We are proud and honored to work with the Lego Group to build a publishing program that will delight and inspire young readers for years to come.”

This is not the first time LBYR has worked with the Lego company; in 1994 it signed a deal to do a series of interactive books based on its Duplo brand of building blocks for preschoolers.
