Spring books are in full bloom as March begins; titles from longstanding series, heavily-medaled illustrators, the stateside release of a controversial novel, and even some buzzed-about debuts are just some of the books to look forward to seeing on shelves next week.

Aqualicious by Victoria Kann. HarperCollins, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-233016-1. The franchise that began with Pinkalicious nine years ago is still going strong.

If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-06-229889-8. The Coretta Scott King and Robert F. Sibert Award-winner is back with a picture book showing the big things that can come from small acts. Read previous interviews with Nelson here and here.

Firstborn by Tor Seidler (S&S/Atheneum, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-4814-1017-5). 50,000 copies. The National Book Award finalist returns with a novel about the cycle of life set among animals living in Yellowstone Park. Mosquitoland by David Arnold. Viking, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-451-47077-5. This highly touted first novel follows an observant and quirky protagonist, “I’ve only known two other Carls in my lifetime – an insurgent moonshiner and a record store owner – both of whom taught me important... life lessons. The Bunker Diary by Kevin Brooks. Carolrhoda Lab, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4677-5420-0. This 2014 Carnegie Medal winner drew controversy because of its bleak themes, with many detractors in the U.K. calling the book unsuitable for young readers. It first appears in the U.S. this week.
