New books at bat for the final week of April include the latest offering from a baseball star, a much-buzzed dystopian novel, a picture book from singing sister TV stars, and more.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Razorbill, $18.95; ISBN 978-1-59514-803-2.

Hit & Miss by Derek Jeter. S&S/Wiseman, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-481-42315-1. The latest from Jeter’s S&S imprint is a follow-up to The Contract and just in time to herald the start of baseball season.

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. HarperCollins, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-232052-0. Headley co-edited Unnatural Creatures with Neil Gaiman, and earned a blurb from the author for her genre-spanning novel, which helped the book catch advance buzz. The novel also netted a starred review from PW.

In the Waves by Lennon Stella and Maisy Stella, illus. by Steve Bjorkman. HarperCollins, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-235939-1. The musical sisters, who grew to popularity on YouTube and landed on the TV show Nashville, release a summer-themed picture book, the text of which are the lyrics to their first original song.

Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Magical Creatures by Maggie Stiefvater and Jackson Pearce. Scholastic Press, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-545-70926-2. The book kicks off Pearce (Cold Spell) and Stiefvater’s (The Raven Boys) middle-grade fantasy series, in which the eponymous character, who can talk to magical creatures, befriends a hypochondriac boy self-described as “allergic to magical things.”
