Hitting bookshelves next week is a range of YA offerings from the dramatic and realistic to the fantastical, and a new early-reader odd-couple.

Undertow by Michael Buckley (HMH, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-544-34825-7). From the author of the middle-grade series N.E.R.D.S., Buckley moves to YA with the first of a new trilogy set in a magical-realist Coney Island in which a teen boy confronts an ocean-dwelling race.

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. Viking, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-451-47470-4. The latest novel from the bestselling YA author focuses on a family splintering after tragedy; it earned a starred review from PW.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Bloomsbury, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-61963-444-2. The first in a new series from Maas, author of the Throne of Glass trilogy, in which a truce between the human world and the faerie kingdom is broken.

Ballet Cat: The Totally Secret Secret by Bob Shea. Disney-Hyperion, $9.99; ISBN 978-1-4847-1378-5. In this latest early reader from Shea, odd-couple friends play ballet all day, but Sparkles the Pony has trouble matching Ballet Cat’s enthusiasm. The bold art and humor throughout netted a starred review from PW.
